Compensation: $15.00/hour
Hours: 10-20hours/week. Must be able to work Saturdays year-round and Wednesday Night Market seasonally.
Position will be open until filled. Interviews will start in November 2024.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Waco Downtown Farmers Market is looking for an Assistant Market Manager to join our team, working both Saturday morning and seasonal Wednesday evening markets. The Assistant Manager will help with Market day tasks including set-up and tear-down, as well as assist with food access programming, community outreach, and Market communication. Strong candidates will demonstrate they can commit to Saturdays year-round and Wednesdays seasonally, are consistent and reliable, enjoy interacting with customers, and are upbeat + friendly.
ABOUT WDFM
The Waco Downtown Farmers Market (a 501(c)3 non-profit) was established in 2011, as a year-round Saturday market in the heart of downtown Waco, adding a Wednesday evening market in 2023. Our mission is to operate welcoming and diverse markets that support local farmers and small businesses, increase access to healthy affordable food, and enrich the Waco community through education and wellness activities.
Main Tasks of the Position:
Attend weekly Saturday morning market (7:30am-2pm) and seasonal Wednesday Market (3pm-8pm) - in all weather conditions (100+, rain, cold)
Assist with Market set up and tear down
Oversee the Market token system and food benefits programming during Market
Respond to customer and vendor questions questions
Coordinate the Market in the absence of other market staff
Supervise volunteers during Market, coordinating with Market Manager for tasks
Implement and evaluate green initiatives (recycling, composting) during Market
Weekly Tasks:
Assist with WDFM’s social media accounts
Schedule and communicate with Market volunteers
Assist with fundraising events and campaigns
Attend occasional meetings, including vendor, committee, and staff gatherings
Check and respond to email in a timely manner
Receive phone calls and return messages for the Market phone number
Must be willing to obtain a Food Manager’s License (at the expense of the WDFM).
Preferred skills include: experience with Canva and graphic design, basic knowledge of various POS (point of sales systems), use of social media platforms in a professional capacity, basic understanding of local agriculture and growing seasons, proficient in speaking Spanish

Proven ability to work independently and exercise good judgment in a variety of environments and situations
Enthusiasm for developing and maintaining relationships with customers, farmers, vendors, chefs, neighbors and other community members
Strong verbal and written communications skills.
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Regularly stand, kneel, climb, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
Regularly lift, carry and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
Regularly work outdoors in all kinds of weather and conditions.
